Galt Irrigation DIstrict (GID) is a special district formed under the California Water Code. GID was founded in 1953 and has been active in the Cosumnes Groundwater Basin delivering surface water when available to its agricutlure customers. GID has been actively managing groundwater also. It participated in developing the first Groundwater Management Plan in the late 1990's and again in 2011. The district is now involved in developing and implementing the Groundwater Sustainability Plan for the Cosumnes Basin under the Sustainable Groundwater Management Act passed by the State Legilature in 2014.
